Resurfacing of the I-55 contract commenced in July, 2011. The contract consisted of 12 miles of Class D Patching and 4” resurfacing of 3 mainline lanes with Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) placement, each direction, from County Line Road to Kedzie Avenue. In addition, approximately 24 miles of 3-3/4” resurfacing of shoulders with N70 binder and surface courses, from I-355 to Kedzie Avenue, resurfacing approximately 30 interstate ramps with N50 poly-level binder and N70 surface, and 15 bridge decks were were also included in this contract work. In order to maintain traffic flow, the majority of this contract was performed during off-peak hours under lane closures. In total, approximately 187,000 TON of asphalt millings were generated on this contract and nearly 200,000 TON of HMA were required to complete this project. This contract was successfully completed in October, 2011.

I-90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway)
Client: Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA)

Much needed resurfacing of Northwest Tollway commenced in April, 2011. The contract consisted of Class A and D patching and removal and replacement of nearly 9.3 miles of the existing 3-lane mainline, shoulders and ramp asphalt overlay, from the Elgin Toll Plaza to Barrington Road. In total, approximately 178,000 TON of existing asphalt was removed and replaced with nearly 188,000 TON of Stone Matrix Asphalt – SMA (mainline) and N50 Binder / N70 Surface (shoulders and ramps). This contract was completed on October 15, 2011.
City of Chicago Street Resurfacing North and Central Areas (Chicago , IL)

As part of a continuing maintenance contract for nearly 3 years for the City of Chicago, Plote Construction provides services to remove and repave asphalt streets throughout the city as needed. In addition, much needed improvement on ADA ramps, sidewalks and curb was included in this scope of work.
Last year we paved nearly 24,000 ton on the Central contract alone finishing the surface course on Van Buren Street and Jackson Street the day before the Chicago Marathon was going to be run on our brand new pavement.The contracts for the City offer a lot of different projects from removing and replacing large five mile stretches of road in downtown Chicago to small one block pieces in residential neighborhoods.
Runway 10R-28L: Taxiway ZS (Chicago, IL)
Client: O’Hare International Airport – O’Hare Modernization Program
General Contractor, $5M
Construction of Taxiway ZS commenced in June, 2011. The contract consisted of a newly constructed taxiway to be part of the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP), turning a system of intersecting runways into a modern parallel runway configuration. An approximate 800’ taxiway section in length, 75’ in width of mainline PCC pavement and 35’ in width of bituminous shoulders adjacent to the mainline PCC pavement formed what is now Taxiway ZS. Nearly 45,000 CY of unclassified excavation was removed from the footprint of the proposed taxiway pavement section. A 12” lift of Recycled Frost Protection Base Course was placed followed by 12” of Asphalt Treated Permeable Base (ATPB) and Base Course, and completed with nearly 7,000 SY of 17” jointed and reinforced pavement to complete the mainline taxiway pavement, and 3,000 TON of warm mix asphalt N50 Binder and N70 Surface course to complete the taxiway shoulders. This contract was successfully completed on October 31, 2011.
Route 20 – Weld Road to Shales Road (Elgin, IL)

Construction on Route 20 commenced on August, 2011. Work consisted of 6 miles of Class D patching, roadway resurfacing and bridge deck repairs on Route 20. Approximately 50,000 TON of HMA asphalt was used on this contract to complete this overlay. This contract was successfully completed in October, 2011.
Rakow Road – Ackman Road to IL Route 31 (Crystal Lake / Lake in the Hills, IL)

Joint Venture w/Curran Contracting, $26.6M
Plote Construction/Curran Contracting joint venture began reconstruction of Rakow Road in April, 2011. The project consists of approximately 3 miles through 5 intersections of full reconstruction and widening of Rakow Road, from an original 2-lane / 4-lane section to a proposed 4-lane / 6-lane section of pavement from south of Ackman Rd to IL 31. Earthwork activities include the construction of 2 detention basins as well as the proposed sub-base to host for the widening mainline. The mainline cross section consists of 7 ¼” PCC Base Course, overlaid with 4” of HMA asphalt. Curb and gutter, medians, and sidewalks were also reconstructed as part of this contract. Stage 1 milestone was completed on November 30, 2011. Anticipated contract completion is scheduled for November, 2012, making this McHenry County’s largest project completed in time for the holidays.
